The third Annual Great Slave 200 has finished. The race was quite an event with the first big storm of the year blowing in for us. Trail conditions were tougher than expected due to the amount of snow and wind resulting in slower travel times than expected. The race format this year was new. The teams started in downtown Fort Providence and ran to the highway and then along the highway to the North Arm Territorial Park. The initial trail plan was to continue from the North Arm Park onto Great Slave and finish on Kam Lake in Yellowknife. However, due to the storm that raged all day Saturday during the race, it was decided for safety and in consideration of the dogs to finish the race at the North Arm Park. All dogs and mushers faired well. We are already looking forward to next year's race.
